Emerging MCs from Puglia in 2026: ten names to watch
The generation shaking up the South
While the rest of Italy looks to Rome, Milan and Naples for new rap talent, Puglia is going through a moment of extraordinary vitality. It's not just the freestyle at the Salento Block Battle. It's a broad, varied scene that is producing rappers capable of competing on a national level.
March 2026. Two months after wrapping up our annual scouting, we can say with confidence: the next five years of Italian rap will pass through here too.
Here are ten names you need to know, sleep on them at your own risk.
1. Alessio T. — 19 years old, Lecce | Freestyle / Battle rap
Specialty: Flawless multisyllabic rhymes, hybrid flow (improvised and written)
Why he matters: He won the U23 regional tournament in January 2026, and his style represents the new wave: pure technique, but with content. He's not a rhyme-robot. He has emotion.
Reference track: "Lezione di stile" (freestyle published on YouTube, October 2025)
Prognosis: Within two years he'll be signed to a major, with at least one national feature.
2. Chiara M. — 17 years old, Melendugno | Freestyle / Trap
Specialty: Introspective content, vulnerability, constructive rhyme
Why she matters: She's the new female face of the scene. She's not a rapper imitating the male style. She has a female vision of freestyle. Winner of the 2026 Salento Block Battle, she proved that the audience rewards authenticity above everything else.
Reference track: "Donna da battaglia" (live freestyle, June 2026)
Prognosis: She could be the first female rapper from Puglia to reach national streaming organically.
3. Luca "Penna" Rossi — 19 years old, Lecce | Freestyle / Boom bap
Specialty: Pure improvisation, instinctive connection with the beat
Why he matters: He's the freestyler who doesn't know his own limit. He refuses any preparation before a battle. He gets on stage and improvises, period. In a world where freestyle has become semi-written, Penna reminds everyone why the genre was invented in the first place.
Reference track: Open Mic Estate 2025, August 8th (YouTube, 12 uninterrupted minutes)
Prognosis: Hard to predict. If he stays in pure freestyle, he'll become a local legend. If he starts writing, he could explode.
4. Marco "Fresh" Donato — 18 years old, Botrugno | Freestyle / Trap / Production
Specialty: Versatility, produces his own beats (he can make his own beats for freestyle)
Why he matters: He's one of the few who can both rap and produce. In a world where independence is the supreme value, Fresh represents the model of the future: the complete artist.
Reference track: His production for "Open Mic Estate 2025, week 1"
Prognosis: He could drop a self-produced EP in the coming months that catches the attention of labels.
5. Federica "Fly" Rizzo — 21 years old, Gallipoli | Breaking / Contemporary hip-hop
Why she's not just a dancer: In modern freestyle, breaking is part of the conversation. Federica isn't just a winning b-girl. She's an ambassador for hip-hop culture as a whole. For rap, she represents the space where the genre meets movement.
Reference track: Jam Writers Botrugno 2025 (live performance with Chiara M.)
Prognosis: She could become a regular guest at Italian hip-hop festivals in 2027.
6. Anna "Ink" Rossi — 14 years old, Lecce | Freestyle / Songwriting
Specialty: Very young, but with rare emotional maturity
Why she matters: Winner of the Under-18 category at the 2026 Block Battle. At 14, she already understands that freestyle isn't just technique, it's storytelling. She's an old soul in a young body.
Reference track: 2026 Block Battle final, June (3 minutes that change everything)
Prognosis: The next 4-5 years will define whether she becomes a superstar or remains a local star. The potential is there.
7. Dani "Boom" Leccese — 25 years old, Lecce | Boom bap / Underground
Specialty: Minimalist beat production, meditative rapping style
Why he matters: He's the opposite of everything trendy. No trap, no drill, no chasing streams. He does pure boom bap, like the '90s. In 2026, that might seem anachronistic. Instead, he's finding an increasingly large audience online. In a world of infinite streaming, boom bap never dies, it just sleeps.
Reference track: "Lecce, nord dello zio" (EP, April 2026)
Prognosis: He'll build an ever-growing community of devotees. He won't rack up millions of streams, but he'll have a devoted, international following.
8. Rosa "Vulcano" Colombo — 22 years old, from Milan but based in Lecce | Freestyle / Diss track
Specialty: Controlled aggression, cutting rhymes without turning mean
Why she matters: She came down from the north intending to "raise the level." Instead, she discovered that Salento already had the level, just a different one. She merged her Milanese aggression with Salento's humanity. She's a bridge between the scenes.
Reference track: Freestyle battle vs. Vito "Sparo Rime," March 2026 (a draw, but the crowd was split)
Prognosis: She could sign with a small independent label from the north in the next 12 months.
9. Gianluca "Vortex" Santoro — 20 years old, Taranto | Freestyle / Melodic songwriting
Specialty: Fusion of freestyle and melody. He's not a singer, but he's not a pure rapper either.
Why he matters: It's rare to find freestylers who can also sing. Vortex does it naturally. His vision could open up a new subgenre: melodic freestyle.
Reference track: "Taranto sa di sale," freestyle with melody (YouTube, March 2026)
Prognosis: It depends on his next move. If he finds the right producer, he could drop a viral single. If he stays in freestyle, he'll be remembered as an innovator.
10. Giancarlo "Stile" Marra — 23 years old, Brindisi | Battle rap / Diss track
Specialty: Tactical strategy in battles, perfect counter-punches
Why he matters: In battle rap, 70% is technique, 30% is psychology. Giancarlo understands this. He's not the fastest at rhyming, but he's the one who knows when to counterattack, when to slow down, when to hit an opponent's ego verbally.
Reference track: Battle vs. Alessio T., February 2026 (YouTube, technical loss but near parity on psychology)
Prognosis: He could become a battle coach in 2027. He won't make records, but he'll teach people how to battle.
Box: Trends of the new generation from Puglia

| Genre fusion | Freestyle + melody + trap + boom bap | Vortex, Fresh |
| Independence | Refusal to chase a major label prematurely | Boom, Fresh |

Lightning interview: What does freestyle in Puglia mean to you in 2026?
Chiara M.: "In 2024, doing freestyle was almost a private thing, among friends. In 2026, it's a movement. There are girls starting out because they see me or Federica. It's beautiful."
Luca Penna: "Freestyle shouldn't become professionalized. The question isn't 'how do I make money with freestyle,' but 'how do I stay authentic.'"
Marco Fresh: "I want to make complete music. Not just freestyle. I want to produce beats that change the way people improvise."
Conclusion: Puglia's moment
2026 could be the year when rap from Puglia stops being a regional novelty and becomes a national phenomenon. Not because it copied Milan or Rome, but because it found its own voice.
These ten (and many others we've left out for brevity) represent a generation that grew up listening to Italian freestyle but decided to do it their own way.
