Volunteer Insurance Calculator

Estimate the cost of mandatory insurance for volunteers

It will estimate the cost of the mandatory insurance policy for non-occasional volunteers (accident, illness, civil liability) based on the number of volunteers and the type of activity carried out, and it will help you compare the premiums of the main insurance providers.

  • Will estimate the premium by band: accident, civil liability and illness
  • Will help you compare the rates of the main insurance providers
  • Will calculate the estimate on the basis of the declared activity hours
  • Will provide a checklist of the minimum mandatory cover (art. 18 D.Lgs 117/2017)

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this tool.

  • Do all volunteers need to be insured?

Entities that use volunteers must insure them against accidents and illnesses connected to the volunteer activity and for civil liability towards third parties (art. 18 c. 1 Legislative Decree 117/2017). The inter-ministerial decree of 6 October 2021 identifies simplified insurance mechanisms, including with numerical policies (art. 18 c. 2).
  • Who is a "non-occasional" volunteer?

The Third Sector Code distinguishes volunteers who carry out their activity "in a non-occasional way", who must be entered in the register (art. 17 c. 1 Legislative Decree 117/2017), but the text of the article does not state a threshold of hours or interventions. Check with your accountant or with the reference CSV how to classify doubtful cases.
  • Can the APS choose any insurance company?

Yes, provided the policy covers the risks that art. 18 Legislative Decree 117/2017 states (accidents and illnesses connected to the volunteer activity, civil liability towards third parties). For the simplified mechanisms and the checks see the inter-ministerial decree of 6 October 2021. Ask the reference CSV about the agreements available.
  • What happens if a volunteer is injured during an uninsured activity?

The APS is civilly liable and may face administrative penalties. It is essential that all non-occasional volunteers are covered before starting any activity.
  • Is the insurance cost deductible?

Yes, the insurance premium for volunteers is an institutional expense deductible from business income if the APS carries out commercial activities, or otherwise recordable as a cost in cash-based accounting.
