Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this tool.

  • What is SROI and why does it matter for an APS?

Social Return on Investment is a methodology for measuring the social value an organisation generates, expressed in economic terms. For an APS it demonstrates the impact of volunteer activities: useful for grant applications, donor relations and institutional communication.
  • How are the "costs avoided" by society calculated?

The methodology considers services the APS provides that would otherwise fall on the public purse (e.g. tutoring, psychological support, youth outreach). Every hour of volunteering is valued using the national collective labour agreement (CCNL) rate for the matching role.
  • Are the CCNL coefficients updated every year?

Yes, the tool uses the collective agreements currently in force for the non-profit sector (CCNL Cooperative Sociali, CCNL Uneba, CCNL Enti Locali), updated every year. The coefficients are visible and editable for custom reporting.
  • Is the SROI calculation recognised by public grants?

Fondazione CON IL SUD, CSVs and many regional grants accept SROI reporting as proof of impact. The methodology used (Fondazione Terzjus/NPC) is the most widely recognised in Italy.
  • Can I compare SROI across different years?

Yes, the tool keeps a year-by-year history. Comparing years shows how impact grows over time: useful for the annual report to members and for stakeholder communications.
