Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this tool.

  • Which cultivars are covered?

Cellina di Nardo, Ogliarola Salentina, Leccino, Frantoio, Coratina, Nociara, Picholine, Nardò Ogliarola and other minor native varieties. For each cultivar: growth habit, canopy shape, drupe size, colour, yield, and oil parameters.
  • How is the xylella issue handled?

Each profile shows the susceptibility level documented by scientific research (CRSFA "Basile Caramia" and CNR Bari). It does not replace the Puglia Region's phytosanitary bulletins, which should always be consulted for agronomic decisions.
  • Is the scientific data up to date?

We refer to publications from the National Research Council, the Research Centre for Cereal and Industrial Crops, and the Department of Agro-Environmental and Territorial Sciences at the University of Bari. Updated every six months.
  • Is the tool useful for food tourists?

Yes, there is a "Pairings" section describing the sensory characteristics of the oil produced by each cultivar (fruity, bitter, spicy), with pairing suggestions and references to local DOP olive mills.
  • Can I download the profiles as PDF?

Yes, each cultivar profile is available as a printable one-page PDF. The full set of 12 cultivars can be downloaded for free as an ebook, useful for farm holidays and tour guides.
