Violent Lyrics Checker

Analysis of violent language in song lyrics

It will analyze Italian rap and song lyrics to flag potentially violent, misogynistic, homophobic or discriminatory content. It won't censor: it will help writers become aware of the language they use. Designed for educational workshops and for anyone distributing music independently.

  • It will use language analysis designed for awareness, not censorship
  • It will classify by category: physical violence, misogyny, homophobia, discrimination
  • It will suggest alternative wording for each flag
  • It will be designed to stay private: the text shouldn't leave your device

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this tool.

  • Does the tool censor or block lyrics?

No, not in any way. It's an awareness tool, not a censorship tool. It shows potentially problematic language patterns and their context, leaving the artist free to decide. It makes no judgment on artistic quality.
  • How does it work technically?

It uses a BERT model fine-tuned on an Italian corpus of song lyrics (a dataset built with artists' consent). The model runs in the browser using ONNX Runtime to make sure the text never leaves the device.
  • Does the model understand irony and context?

The model understands sentence-level context, but irony and satire remain a challenge for all NLP models. Signals of irony (e.g. "obviously", "as if") lower the alert score. The tool always recommends human review.
  • Why is this tool part of an anti-bullying APS's mission?

OnStage APS works to counter bullying and early school leaving. Violent language in the lyrics young people listen to and produce is a risk factor documented in the literature. This tool supports critical reflection without being paternalistic.
  • Is the analyzed data used to train the model?

No. Processing happens entirely locally in the browser (ONNX Runtime). No data is sent to any server. Lyrics cannot be used for training without explicit consent.
